Founded in 1974, the Miccosukee Land Cooperative (MLC) is an intentional community of more than 140 households on 344 wooded acres, offering rural, forested living just 20 minutes east of downtown Tallahassee, Florida. There is delightfully convenient access to hospitals, restaurants, major retailers (e.g., Lowes, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s) and universities (i.e., Florida State University, Florida A&M University), and state government offices. Today, our annual HOA fee is approximately USD 600. We are open to new members who are interested in actively participating in an established intentional community (i.e., donating your time to promote the greater good of MLC). Many of our members have lived here for 20–50 years. As MLC looks to the future, we hope to become a more diverse community and welcome the broadening of backgrounds, identities, cultures, and life experiences represented here. Co-op members privately own their own land, typically 1 or 2 acres. More than 90 acres are preserved in their natural state as common land, owned collectively and enjoyed by the entire membership. Paths and boardwalks connect us to each other and to our wildlife sanctuary. We also have a Community Center (w/ a full kitchen and stage) for gatherings and the option to join our swimming pool. For interested folks, we have a walking tour to see the land. We also have a Waiting List for$45/yr, which includes our monthly newsletter. Folks on the Waiting List have the opportunity to purchase homes/land before they are listed publicly, after the other first rights of refusal. MLC members are drawn together by a common desire to build and maintain our precious sense of community; preserve the flora and fauna on our land; build long-lasting supportive friendships; and contribute labor (physical and/or intellectual) to maintaining MLC’s grounds, infrastructure, self-governance, and committees. We hold regular activities, including potlucks, karaoke, Thanksgiving dinner, a New Year’s celebration, and weekly yoga and Pilates classes. We also celebrate members’ milestones and achievements; support one another in times of sickness or tragedy; and continually try to find more time to work, eat, talk, sing, and play music together.

Black Bulga is a small intentional community of people who are custodians of a beautiful piece of land in the Upper Monkerai Valley – in the foothills of the Barrington Wilderness, New South Wales, Australia. We pay our respects to the Worimi people, the traditional owners of this country. We strive to live in harmony with nature and with each other, and to tread lightly on the earth. We share a vision of just and sustainable future and actively engage in the world to help make this vision a reality. As part of this vision, we intend to create an inspiring educational, arts and ecology centre to actively engage the wider community in our work for social change towards a more ecological and just society. We are a group of passionate people who are ambitious about creating a sustainable future, and who are willing to work hard to enact our vision on our land for the benefit of our community and others In early 2010, we purchased a beautiful block of land at the confluence of the Karuah and Teleghery rivers on the edge of the Barrington wilderness. Something about the sweet taste of the river water, the cool, deep swimming holes, stunning views and fertile soil made it easy for our group to realise that we had finally found the place we had been looking for. All our members intend to be vaccinated against COVID-19. For now, we’re very careful to manage the risk of transmission. It’s important to us. We believe in science and follow expert health advice. Email us for further details. Note: Our joining process requires potential new members to visit regularly, so it’s probably not feasible for people residing in other countries to join. Visitors are welcome.

During the summer of 2021, we secured a parcel of vacant land near Crawford Bay in British Columbia. We have put a pause on visitors and new members until at least summer 2028, as we implement our plan for guest accommodations. Check back then for an update. From Neale Donald Walsch’s “The Complete Conversations with God” book, God says: From Sal Rachele’s “Earth Changes and Beyond” book, the Founders say: We are a spiritual (vegan/vegetarian/unvaxxed) community and are currently off-grid, running on solar with backup diesel generators. We have our own well water, and grow food in our garden. We are currently a group of 2 families. Manoj with his daughter, plus Jamie and Tanya with their son. Manoj is a father to three adult children. His spiritual journey began after 9/11 when he read “Conversations with Nostradamus” by Dolores Cannon, and decided to begin a disciplined yoga practice which led to a variety of spiritual experiences. He subsequently read the “Conversations with God” series of books by Neale Donald Walsch and the books of Sal Rachele and the Founders. These books form the basis for his beliefs, values and vision of the future, which is to live in an intentional community as they’ve described. https://www.youtube.com/@manojtheyogi Jamie is a dad with an amazing partner (Tanya) and a wonderful child. He is driven by truth, nature, spirit, and all the aspects that make up being both a human and a being. From re-envisioning how we live in homes, interact with energy, grow and preserve food to our spiritual evolution, finding the truth of our history, our present life situation and the beautiful mysteries of our world. He feels extremely lucky to be a part of this intentional community and in our mission to live in harmony with people of like values. Tanya’s intention is to live sustainably, grow her own food and provide an environment for her son to live out his childhood surrounded by happiness, spiritualism and a like minded community. She enjoys being in nature and hiking and grounding herself to our earth. Gardening her own organic food is her primary goal. She really enjoys cooking and preparing food through a whole food plant based diet.

The model for life in a highly evolved society:
Beings live in clusters, or what you would call small intentional communities. These clusters are not further organized into cities, states, or nations, but each interacts with the others on a co-equal basis.
There are no governments as you would understand them, and no laws. There are councils, or conclaves. Usually of elders. And there are what could best be translated into your language as “mutual agreements.” These have been reduced to a Triangular Code: Awareness, Honesty, Responsibility.
Highly evolved beings have decided long ago that this is how they choose to live together. They’ve made this choice based not on a moral structure or spiritual revelation that some other being or group has brought forth, but, rather, on a simple observation of what is so, and what works.
Fourth density humans remaining with the Earth will create intentional self-sufficient spiritual communities of light in the safe places on Earth, where they will flourish and thrive. They will create what the Hopi call the “fifth world.” (Pangaea is the first, Lemuria the second, Atlantis the third, and the rapidly declining present civilization the fourth world.)
We are recruiting new work partners for our regenerative organic farming cooperative. Fertile land, equipment, funding, food, housing, and training provided, at no cost to qualified candidates. What you produce is what you earn. This is NOT gardening or homesteading or permaculture or any other hobby/lifestyle. We grow food for market. This is NOT an administrative or management opportunity. When intelligent, motivated people sweat together, they don’t need idle people telling them what to do. Proof that you are suitable for this opportunity lies only in your ability to document your sustained enjoyment of the profession. Your resume MUST document verifiable professional organic farming experience. Organic farmers everywhere are desperate for reliable help. If you have little organic farming experience but believe it is your destiny, go help an organic farmer near you for a year, or two. Then get in touch. Our email address won’t change. This is NOT a cannabis operation. We grow food, not poison. ZERO tolerance of drug use. Alcohol, cannabis and nicotine are drugs. At present, the facilities are in need of long-deferred maintenance. If you are hoping to step into your tropical farm fantasy, this is not it. Unless you are ready to invest yourself and your sweat into working to create the situation you desire, this opportunity is not for you.

It is my goal to find other Tantra practitioners to form a kula/sangha. All religions are welcome. Living with/near other practitioners is said to be highly helpful on the path. The idea is to get together a small group and buy land in a rural part of Costa Rica, high up enough in altitude to be cool and comfortable, but within an hour drive to the beach. Far enough out into the countryside to have lots of privacy and get a good deal on land, but close enough to a small town or village to have basic amenities. The land could be apportioned into individual plots or together in a corporation. Either way everyone would get their own homestead. We could have some shared common areas also: community yoga shala, kitchen, gardens, etc. A significant portion of the land would remain undeveloped and in a natural state, with maybe some walking trails or a small meditation hut.

I’m into permaculture, sustainability, and natural building, but I don’t want the focus of this to be on ecovillage type stuff. I’d be happy to work with others on eco projects but also want to welcome people who are not so into that and would rather live in a standard house and buy all their food at a grocery store. I’m also not into a lot of rules telling people what they can eat, drink, smoke, etc. It could be that the community works together on some business, retreats or teaching, or everyone does their own thing and makes money how they do.

Harbourside Cohousing’s mission is to be a sustainable senior cohousing homeowner community that promotes healthy aging in place. The physical structures as well as the social fabric of our community nurture an innovative culture with lively connections to the larger society. While respecting personal privacy, we foster cooperation, social connection and affordability through design and through mutual support. Our 2.7 acre waterfront site in downtown Sooke, BC includes 31 strata-titled homes in 3 duplexes, 3 fourplexes, a three-storey apartment building. A beautiful resort building was adapted to reuse as a 4,000 sq ft Common House. We have land for gardens, additional indoor and outdoor common spaces, and a commercial-style wharf offering moorage to residents’ boats. We developed our community to be affordable, aesthetically pleasing, environmentally friendly, and socially/culturally supportive, allowing members to flourish through mutual support (co-care) as we actively age in place and in community.

This is a re-forming community based on sustainable housing and permaculture with a specific interest in education, sustainability, resilience, larger community involvement and showing the world that it can be done better, more efficiently and more happily a different way. Independent people, working together.
Putney Commons (www.putneycommonsvt.com) is a small, owner developed, intentional community located in Putney, Vermont. Six homes were completed in 2009, and a seventh was built in 2014. Our eighth and ninth dwellings were completed in 2022 and 2023. The 9 units are surrounded by field, garden, hills and woods. We are currently a community of 11 individuals and are open to families, couples, and single persons of all ages. We share a vision for being good stewards of the land and supporting one another in living greener and healthier lifestyles. The six original houses were built in two clusters of three semi-detached homes. They are single-story, on slabs, have no attics, are super-insulated and boast a Five Plus Star Energy rating. They range from 1100 to 1475 sq. ft. and are clustered on the north end of a 3.5 acre field. Each has a garage with a small storage unit. The seventh home stands alone. Interior designs vary greatly, based on owner-designed preferences. Five homes have photo voltaic panels; one household has a share in a local solar farm. Members meet monthly to discuss business and living concerns. We make decisions by consensus. We have no common house and eat independently, but we enjoy sharing pot luck dinners and occasional work days. Our $275 monthly owner’s association fee covers common element expenses, e.g., mowing, plowing, sanding, trash, insurance, land maintenance and an operating reserve fund. Homeowners are financially responsible for repair and maintenance to the exterior and interior of their units. Legally we are a condominium association. Our 11.4 acres of land are secluded and private; they include fields, woodlands, a bit of Sacketts Brook, a common fenced-in vegetable garden with individual plots available to interested members and several neighbors, and walking trails. Amazingly, we are also right in the heart of Putney village, across the street from the post office and behind the first row of houses. We are within easy walking distance to the many community events and services offered in and around downtown Putney. Putney also has a familty medical practice, a post office, two banks, a town library, a food coop and general store, gas station/auto repair, as well as a rich variety of arts and cultural institutions. Our nearest neighbor is the Putney Community Center, which houses a community food shelf. A seasonal farmers’ market is within walking distance of the town center, and there are restaurants /eateries within half a mile. Nearby, the Connecticut River and Putney Mountain offer hikers, bikers, rowers, kayakers, and swimmers many opportunities for enjoyment. Putney has three private schools and Landmark College, as well as a strong public elementary school. Many community-based events are held throughout the year, including a village-wide community supper held on the second Friday of each month. We are located ten miles north of Brattleboro just half a mile from I-91, exit 4.

Cherry Hill Cohousing set out to create a living environment that encourages a strong sense of community, supports our need for privacy, makes life affordable, and provides a secure and enriched setting for children and adults. We have a place where people know their neighbors in a meaningful way, a neighborhood where different traditions and values are respected, and where we can all have a sense of security and belonging. Even after so many years together, we are still a work in progress, continuing to get better and better at living our values and goals. Our group purchased a 23-acre meadow site in North Amherst where we built 32 units and a large common house, moving in June – September 1994. We built a clustered mix of single, duplex, and triplex buildings on seven of those acres. The rest is field and woods, surrounded by town lands. Residents own their own homes, as well as a share of the land and the common house. The common house is a place for weeklhy community dinners, meetings, entertainment, and other public and private functions. It includes a large kitchen/dining room, children’s playroom, guest rooms, laundry facilities, library, sauna, exercise room, and recycling center. We have optional (but well-attended) dinners two nights a week, gardens, play and work spaces, hiking trails, and other shared amenities chosen by residents that have social and economic advantages. The community is a short walk from a municipal lake; a recreation park with tennis, swimming, and playing fields; a small shopping center; a library; the university; and public transportation.

New Culture DC is a non-land-based intentional community of over a hundred people in the DC/Baltimore region. Our members are those who have experienced New Culture at an event, gathering, workshop, or at an intentional community based on New Culture, and choose to become part of our intense and intimate network. NCDC sees community as a means to social change, and one of our goals is to encourage our members to live in ways which serve as models of healthy ways of relating to the Earth and to each other. We see our community as a means to produce a world without fear, violence, coercion, or sexual repression. We believe that there are several key components to realizing this vision: self-responsible individuals; mutual support, honesty and openness in interpersonal relationships, a realization that means determine ends, and a realization that the personal is political — that is, a commitment to personal growth and change. We are the DC New Culture group. There are also local New Culture groups in Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Massachusetts; and there are intentional communities based on NFNC principles in Virginia, West Virginia, Washington State, California, Hawaii, and Oregon. To facilitate the community-forming and personal growth process, and to enrich our connections with each other, we hold conferences, workshops, and camps throughout the year, as well as many informal gatherings. Often, New Culture people will become housemates, forming a kind of mini-intentional community. You can find a New Culture group near you by going to www.new-culture.org.

Allegheny Crest Intentional Village is a unique approach to combining social change, personal growth, rural revitalization, and ecological sensitivity. Located in the West Virginia Potomac Highlands, 100 miles west of Washington DC, with spectacular mountain settings and crisp, clean air, our land currently includes a retreat center with 20 acres of lush, pristine river valley, and 3 acres of mountaintop with four houses, a 24-unit motel, and a general store. Like many other intentional communities, Allegheny Crest is based in humanistic values, equality of opportunity, social action, personal growth, and compassionate service. What makes us a village, and not only a community, is active outreach, local integration, radical acceptance, and porous membership: Active Outreach: We regularly have events that bring in a wide range of people, and these events change lives! Participants have said: “‘normal’ is not normal anymore”; “opening doors that I didn’t even know existed”; “truly people who accepted me unconditionally”; “I fell in love with myself!” (We jokingly say that we measure success by how many people go home and quit their jobs.) Whatever skills you have can be used to help create these amazing spaces. They make magic! Local Integration: We reach out to those who already live nearby, providing services, working with them, playing with them, building connections in whatever ways work best, and becoming an integral part of the local people’s lives. Radical Acceptance. People who would never think of discriminating on skin color or gender often unconsciously discriminate against people with different verbal styles, work patterns, thought processes, or priorities. Discovering these blind spots and creating a welcoming environment for *all* people is a core part of our work in the world. Porous Membership. Many communities have a strong line between members and non-members, have strict limits on visitors, and a structured membership process—all within the context of defined property lines. Membership at Allegheny Crest can take any form that human relationships can take, from client or casual acquaintance to event participant to short-term volunteer to full residential membership—and individuals can shift their relationship as their own needs and growth require. Because we practice Radical Acceptance, this includes accepting that an individual’s relation to the community can change however it needs to without breaking that connection. Porous membership allows people to connect in many ways that allow for mutual benefit for the person and the community. This also spreads the community’s influence and connections much more widely. We are also distinctive in our approach to governance and to abundance: Compassionate Anarchy. Rather than needing group approval for every initiative, each person has full authority to act on their own—and the responsibility to discern who will be affected and how to incorporate their concerns. Compassionate anarchy fosters individual initiative, allows greater personal freedom, and replaces centralized control with a dynamic negotiation process. Abundance. Subsistence living is often seen as a value or necessity in community living. We value and support abundance in every aspect of life: emotions, economics, energetics, social connections, personal freedom, and time. If you are an independent-minded and energetic person who wants an intimate community while contributing to cutting-edge social change, you may find your home with us. Many of us have connected through New Culture experiences: workshops, open houses, weekend events, and ten-day summer camps. There are intentional communities and businesses across the country and beyond that have been built on New Culture insights; here, we are taking it to a new level. Our existing businesses form the economic base for the village. The work is quite varied, and includes every aspect of producing, managing, maintaining, and improving these businesses, properties, events, activism, and educational programs. Play and connection are also core and conscious activities; *balance* is a primary goal. Members can select a living environment that best suits their needs: resident on one of our properties, member of a group house, or living in a separate house or apartment that they rent or own. Residents who choose to be part of the core economic base are provided with room and board (and medical care in many cases), as well as assistance in creating independent income opportunities. Because there are no zoning restrictions and no building code restrictions, Allegheny Crest is an ideal location for using alternative construction techniques, land use, energy generation and management, sustainable design, and much more. We already have a geothermal heating and cooling system for the motel, and geodesic domes for large group meeting spaces; we are excited about exploring other projects that move us more towards sustainability.

Chrysalis is committed to building a sustainable, violence-free culture through intimacy, compassion, radical honesty, freedom of choice in intimate relationships, ecological sensitivity, transparency, and the power of community. Social change and personal transformation are central to our vision. Chrysalis has two houses side-by-side in a wooded setting about 10 minutes’ drive from Washington, DC. The houses can handle eight to ten permanent residents comfortably. Each person pays a share of the mortgage based on room size. Chrysalis encourages members to follow their own vision in the context of a creative, supportive community; we find the ongoing cross-pollination of ideas, talents, and energy takes us to a higher and more productive level. Resident non-members and non-residents are also an important part of Chrysalis; we see our community as part of a much larger network. We are especially looking for people who want to explore their own limits, both personally and productively, who like to be synergized by being around other creative and effective people, and who would enjoy living in an environment that is both challenging and supportive, that invites you to grow while affirming who and what you are. We actively welcome people who are not members to live with us; we value the unique contribution each person has to make. We are less focused on long-term commitments, and more interested in the energy and ideas that our housemates have to offer in the present. We welcome those who would like to work and play and learn with us, whether it be “for a day or a decade.”

We are tucked into the edge of a ravine, within walking distance of downtown Olympia, but in a lovely older neighborhood. In 2016, we completed the 2nd phase of our construction project, which expanded us from 11 to 18 units. The approximately 42 members currently range in age from 7 to 83. Our site is on Olympia’s West Side, just 1.6 miles from downtown, and 6 blocks from the beloved Westside Olympia food coop. Part of our land is a green belt provided by a deep ravine sculpted by a year-round stream that enters Puget Sound several blocks away. We currently have a large vegetable garden and play areas for the kids. All of our homes surround a Center Green where we gather to talk, walk our dogs, ride bikes and scooters, and enjoy the sunshine. Our legal structure is a condominium with a 3-4 member Board. Our governance is Sociocracy with a Coordination Circle made up of two members from each of the Working Circles – Building Maintenance, Outdoor, Finance, and Community Life, plus two members from our Mission Circle (made up of all Board Directors and other individuals).

Far from knowing all the answers in advance, we are experimenting and developing living in a self-selected voluntary community on the countryside with fresh water and clean air, foster close connections and communications in the day-to-day, work with body and mind, outside and indoors, care for the quality of soil and food to name just a few essential elements.
We seek to have all generations present so that we are a complete human tribe, where every one can contribute to every one else’s needs and receives each other generation’s energy and gifts. Many nationalities are present here. We practice our form of Art of Hosting for community meetings and our day-to-day living.
Since 2026 we are two mature couples co-owning the place for the long run. Other members can be here for shorter or longer stays. We now encourage people between 30-55 years to co-live here.

As the Oak Tree is the Entelechy of the Acorn, or the Butterfly is the Entelechy of a Caterpillar, this community exists due to the belief that human society is also capable of realizing its Entelechy. To us, humanity reaching a stage of maturity and realizing their inherent potential means living in balance and symbiosis with all other forms of life, while being conscientious and loving stewards of this planet Earth and as guardians of her various ecosystems. This community was named as such to help us each ask the question: How do we realize our individual, and collective Entelechy? About Our Community

The definition of ‘Entelechy’ means “the realization of potential”. This definition, therefore, also implies that there is a unique potential inherent within each living being, and each living system.
We are a small, ecologically-minded community on Salt Spring Island composing of over 18 long-term residents, plus work-stay friends and other guests. Our community intends to be a sanctuary and place of learning, where we practice and cultivate a genuine care for the natural world, it’s human and non-human residents, and the local ecology. This includes inviting a spirit of reciprocity, and a practice of how to realize our deepest held values so that they show up in the words and actions of daily life.
Carya Grove is an intentional off-grid sub-community within Bear Creek Community Land Trust (https://bearcreekcommunitylandtrust.org/) on current Bear Creek Community Land Trust member Tanner Radig’s 11 acre leasehold consisting of a mix of clay hills with oak + hickory woodland, prairie, and cedar shrub land. Right now it is just me and my family (Tanner (30), Cera (27), one boy (9), and one girl (6)) along with occasional visitors, friends, family, and wwoofers but we would like to find other folks to collaborate, live, and work with longer term and or seasonally. We do not have strong set in stone ways on how to go about this, but do have some vague ideas, are informed from past community experiences, and are open to ideas and figuring it out along the way. Tanner runs a plant nursery (Perennial Crops Nursery LLC) on the land and is slowly building off-grid infrastructure. So far there are two access gravel roads installed, selective tree/brush clearing, a pond for swimming/fishing/habitat/gravity fed water to the plant nursery, compost toilet outhouse, small cabin, camping spots, bus, and an in-progress multi-purpose shed/outdoor kitchen being built. It is off-grid in the sense of not having grid water or electricity. A future root-cellar, greenhouse, workshop, outdoor kitchen, seed/food processing building, laundry and shower house, office and other 4 season dwellings are envisioned being built eventually. We could imagine sharing space with up to 10 or so long-term communards as well as visitors, work-traders, education events, and part-timers. In this intentional sub-community we are interested in possibly sharing a homestead (land, housing, infrastructure, gardens, equipment, vehicles, livestock, work, etc) communally/cooperatively. We currently have a shared coop truck and try to carpool when possible. Ideally meals, cooking, gardens, harvest, land projects, child care, and infrastructure can be shared in ways that make sense for everybody. We have really good neighbors at Bear Creek Community Land Trust, The White Rose Catholic Worker Farm, and Emberfield HeArt Collective Ecovillage. A 45 minute drive northeast is Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage, Sandhill Community Farm, and Red Earth Farms Community Land Trust. La Plata is 6.5 miles away with an Amtrak Station and all the basic businesses and farmers market. Kirksville is 15 miles away with a small airport you can fly to Chicago or St. Louis at, a farmers market, and is a small university town with all the things towns have. Columbia is 1.5 hours south with a huge city and large airport. The name Carya Grove, like everything, is open to change. I had to decide on a name to make a listing so I took a shot at it. Carya means nut. In botany it is the genus of hickory, which I feel very connected to, am passionate about growing, and shagbark hickory (Carya ovata) grows here well naturally. A grove is “a small wood, an orchard, a group of trees.” Due to my current passion/focus being on developing long-term agroecological systems, the name seemed fitting for the time being.

Valle Armonia is comprised of a group of practical idealists, grounded by the natural surroundings and devotion to our project. Our long term vision includes a healing/retreat center and a cutting edge children’s educational facility. Our village center is perched on a ridge in between two beautiful valleys, surrounded by vibrant jungle. Not only are we blessed with a river and a smaller creek, but we also own most of the valley that the creek runs through. We are located 5 km due west of the Caribbean coast and 8 km due north of the Panama border, 5 km by road to the paved highway, 6 km to the nearest stores in Hone Creek, 12 km to the alternative-reggae-tourist-town of Puerto Viejo, and 15 km to Cahuita, a small, quiet town famous for it’s Caribbean island culture and entrance to Cahuita National Park. It’s also a 13 km drive to Bribri, our local municipality and the commercial center for the Bribri indigenous people. This is the most culturally diverse region in Costa Rica! Not only are the majority of indigenous and Afro-Caribbean communities in this country living here, but there are many foreigners from all over the world who now call this area their home. We started planting fruit trees almost immediately upon purchasing the first parcel of land in 2018. We now have an established communal fruit forest with many varieties of fruit trees, a significant number producing. Members also plant fruit trees and an increasing variety of vegetables and flowering plants on their quarter/half hectare parcel lots. We utilize permaculture principles and are constantly learning about growing food in this climate, partly through networking with small organic farmers in the area.

The garden is an egalitarian community propagating a culture of sharing, freedom, and cooperation. This land is available as a space for families and people to work and prosper together in a flexible environment that is fun, and also family friendly. An off-grid intentional community. Theres no city water, and no access to the electrical grid. The Garden is an open-door community. There’s is no need to contact for visitation, like most intentional communities, just show up. You are welcomed to contact if you feel the need, though response is sometimes delayed due in part to busy schedules and limited internet access. Making a comment or post on one of the Facebook pages will also get you a faster response. The garden hosts two free 10 day long gathering events each year. One in spring and the other in the fall. They are the best times to meet the community, learn earth skills, meet others interested in community living or networking with others in the space that are coming from other forming or established intentional communities. The Garden is the Hub for the Peoples Project, a 501c3 organization, with the missions of; Shared Land Communities and Mutual Aid Network. Annual meetings for The People’s Project are held at The Garden during The Gatherings. Visitors can stay for 2 weeks. If they’d like to stay longer, they can make a request at council, which would then be consented upon by the community. There will be opportunity at least one council to check in and review how the visit is going. Visitors are not expected to contribute monetarily but are expected to uphold all other guidelines. When you arrive, ask for a tour of the space! Our guidelines: No violence No drugs No alcohol (intentional home brew projects are allowed w/ consensus) No cats Dogs must be on a leash, or in one of our two dog-friendly structures We prefer to live outside the system and deal with problems on our own smoking in designated areas only top floor of wood shed porch behind kitchen woods- be respectful of others What to expect There is well water for drinking water, community shared outdoor kitchen, (in winter is in the kitchen bus), kid outdoor play area, school house, office (with phone data booster), 3 composting toilets, rain water catchment for showers and laundry, Amish laundry washer, art/mud bus, greenhouse/tree nursery, multiple gardens, berry labyrinth, orchards, berry patches, creek, pond, mushroom logs, solar power for limited charging of devices. The Visitation Process
Note: we have a room opening for July 1st, 2026! Please text or email to inquire! We are founding a small community on 7.25 acres of wooded, hilly land in Hamden, Connecticut, USA, with a ranch house, a stream, a streamside meadow, and soaring poplars and maples. Although the land is heavily populated with invasive species, there’s also trout lilies, trillium, bloodroot, white wood asters, snakeroot, and several types of goldenrod. Day to day, we will be spending a lot of time together as a community: cooking and eating together; sharing chores; working together on home and land improvement projects; and hanging out. We want to host occasional events like workshops, cookouts, and backyard shows. We want to manage the forest as a forest-understory farm that provides food for humans, especially mushrooms, shade-tolerant native edible plants like mayapple, honewort, ramps and fiddleheads, and water plants like wapato and cattail. We want the land to provide way more ecosystem services than it does now and support all kinds of wildlife, from turkeys to caterpillars. There is also mown yard near the house that can be converted over time into small garden and orchard areas. We have chickens, goats, and livestock guardian dogs. The community is about 15 car-minutes or 30 bike-minutes from central New Haven. The monthly cost-share amount is $800 for one person or $1200 for two people sharing one room, plus utilities. We want to protect the land so that it can never be sold, but instead is owned in trust by the community, providing everyone who lives there with land security. As a community, we have a lot of thoughts about power, privilege and how to live as justly as possible in a deeply unjust world. We are committed to restorative conflict resolution, and to anti-racism. If this sounds like your dream living situation, please message us! We’ll be happy to answer any questions and send an application your way
