The land includes a mix of shared housing\, tiny homes\, and gathering spaces on 3.5 acres in Brattleboro. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAt the heart of Mahalo is the Temple—a beautiful\, hand-crafted structure that hosts ecstatic dances\, art rituals\, contact improv\, yoga\, and other kinds of community celebrations. The Temple is both a sacred space and a venue for creative expression\, available for Airbnb stays and group events. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMahalo is a place to learn\, build\, and grow. Residents host and participate in “learn-by-doing” projects focused on permaculture\, natural building\, food preservation\, herbalism\, and community resilience. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe value non violent communication\, authentic relating\, mutual support\, and honoring diverse expressions of life. While not everyone shares the same beliefs or practices\, we aim to live in a way that uplifts one another and regenerates the ecosystems we’re part of. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re here as a long-term resident or a short-term guest\, Mahalo is a place to plug into creative culture\, care for the Earth\, and contribute to something larger than yourself. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Your Host\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCynthia Tina\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCynthia helps people discover intentional community living for better housing\, health\, and happiness. SUMMARY:The Somatics of Resistance and Resilience
DESCRIPTION:The Somatics of Resistance and Resilience with Lux Gypsum\n\n\n\nTuesday June 24\, 2025 \n\n\n\n\nPacific time: 10am-12pm \n\n\n\nMountain time: 11am-1pm\n\n\n\nCentral time: 12pm-2pm\n\n\n\nEastern time: 1pm-3pm\n\n\n\n\nView your local time here. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is a part of the Liberation Learning Series which runs bi-weekly on Tuesdays from June 10 to September 30\, 2025. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLearn to work with your nervous system through practical\, easy-to-understand teachings and embodied practices that will build your capacity to act rather than react. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the event\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLearn to work with your nervous system as a form of embodied resistance. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThere’s a lot happening in the world right now that can leave us feeling overwhelmed\, angry\, and afraid. When we’re in these activated states\, it is easy for us to take frantic action without strategy or turn on each other and fracture our communities – which ultimately serves the systems we are trying to transform. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDuring these times of uncertainty\, one of the most important skills we can cultivate is the ability to work with our nervous system rather than against it—so we can show up with presence\, power\, and connection. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAs activist and embodiment teacher Prentis Hemphill says: “A relaxed body is the most powerful body that you have… because a relaxed body can choose what to do.” \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAccessing more relaxed states doesn’t require toxic positivity\, avoidance\, or keeping calm at all times by suppressing our reactions. We actually become more relaxed when we learn to listen to our impulses and let them out in the right containers. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn this workshop\, you will learn how to listen to and support your nervous system to prepare you to navigate activation on both small and large scales—whether you’re in a conflict or facing collective crisis. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe format of this offering will be very experiential\, combining practical nervous system education with embodied practices\, group discussions\, and small group exercises. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn this session\, you will:\n\n\n\n\nExpand your understanding of the different nervous system threat responses & how they relate to power and oppression\n\n\n\nExplore embodied ways to express activation\n\n\n\nlearn practices to deactivate your nervous system & return to the present\n\n\n\nBuild awareness of your body & its nervous system cues\n\n\n\nLeave with practical tools to support and care for your nervous system while you work to transform our economic and political systems\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLux Gypsum\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nhealingrising.com \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLux Gypsum (all pronouns) is a queer\, non-binary politicized healer and cultural visionary. SUMMARY:Finding Belonging Amidst Cultural Severance
DESCRIPTION:Finding Belonging Amidst Cultural Severance with Lydia Violet Harutoonian \n\n\n\nTuesday June 10\, 2025 \n\n\n\n\nPacific time: 10am-12pm \n\n\n\nMountain time: 11am-1pm\n\n\n\nCentral time: 12pm-2pm\n\n\n\nEastern time: 1pm-3pm\n\n\n\n\nView your local time here. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is a part of the Liberation Learning Series which runs bi-weekly on Tuesdays from June 10 to September 30\, 2025. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJoin us for this song-filled and interactive webinar that draws from Lydia Violet’s Tending the Bones curriculum to tend diasporic healing and find wisdom that lives in our ancestral and cultural reconnection. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the event\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTo be diasporic means to be a member of any group of people who have been dispersed outside their traditional homeland. Many of the world’s population\, including the majority of North American residents\, exist within a diaspora. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis dispersion often brings with it a sense of ancestral cultural separation\, with which comes disorientation from land\, language\, and tradition\, as well as assimilation into modern capitalism and materialism. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHowever\,  we do not need to resign ourselves to this process:  by studying the past\, we can inform our way forward. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPeople have always stored their lessons and medicines in stories and songs—and every culture has a thread in the timeless tapestry of humanity. What is yours? \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThrough song and story\, we’ll create space to listen for what still lives in the bones—and remember pathways of belonging that colonization will not erase. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis webinar will include teachings\, vocalization\, and a Q & A with Lydia. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn this session\, you will:\n\n\n\n\nCultivate practices for ancestral reconnection rooted in Lydia Violet’s Tending the Bones framework\, drawing on ancestral cultural research as pathways to belonging.\n\n\n\nExplore the emotional and spiritual impacts of cultural severance and how to hold space for diasporic healing within yourself and your communities.\n\n\n\nLeave with embodied tools and reflections to support your ongoing journey of reclaiming lineage\, place\, and purpose amidst colonization.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLydia Violet Harutoonian\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nschoolforthegreatturning.com \n\n\n\nLydia Violet Harutoonian is an Iranian-Armenian-American musician\, educator\, and facilitator devoted to cultural healing\, ecological renewal\, and the restoration of ancestral wisdom. For over 16 years\, she has been a dedicated student of Joanna Macy\, facilitating The Work That Reconnects across many communities\, weaving together systems thinking\, deep ecology\, and emotional resilience in the face of global crisis. \n\n\n\nLydia is the founder of the School for The Great Turning\, a learning community where music\, activism\, and spiritual practice meet. Her work often focuses on diasporic healing and right relationship\, creating spaces for people to reconnect with their cultural roots while engaging the challenges of our time. With training in ecopsychology and trauma-informed facilitation\, she offers grounded emotional support to individuals and communities navigating burnout\, grief\, and the psychological weight of living in ecological crisis. \n\n\n\nThrough her signature program Tending the Bones\, Lydia guides participants in exploring the impacts of cultural severance and the possibilities of ancestral reconnection. Blending song\, story\, and group process\, the curriculum supports people in tending their lineages with care—uncovering threads of resilience\, healing\, and belonging in the midst of our collective turning. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nYou’ll get the Zoom link after you register in your confirmation email. SUMMARY:When Conflict Resolution Doesn't Work: Alternative Methods for Coexisting
DESCRIPTION:When Conflict Resolution Doesn’t Work: \n\n\n\nAlternative Methods for Coexisting \n\n\n\nThursday\, June 5\, 2025\n\n\n\n\nPacific time: 10am-1pm\n\n\n\nMountain time: 11am-2pm\n\n\n\nCentral time: 12pm-3pm\n\n\n\nEastern time: 1pm-4pm\n\n\n\n\nView your local time here. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat do you do when you are sick and tired of their behavior\, and you don’t have the safety\, trust\, or energy to work toward a resolution? This 3- hour workshop will walk you through “Behavior Response”\, a strategy for working within your values to reduce the negative impact of someone’s unwanted behavior when relationship repair is not an option. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the event\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIf you’ve been living in community long enough\, chances are someone will really get on your nerves. \n\n\n\nYour neighbor may seem disrespectful\, stubborn\, a poor communicator\, unwilling to work with you\, or just downright rude. Odds are good that you have tried to talk to them\, asked them to stop\, sent some emails\, asked others for help\, and listened to their point of view. Now\, you’re too tired\, too hurt\, too discouraged\, too angry or too all of it to try again. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIf you find yourself a similar place\, this workshop is for you. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLiving in community doesn’t always mean you need to repair all relationships. It means you need to learn how to coexist with behaviors and personalities you might not appreciate. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn this immersive workshop\, we will work through “Behavior Response”\, a process that guides each individual to find their own best response to behaviors they don’t like. Our instructor Karen Gimnig won’t give you the answers. Instead\, she will guide you on a path towards asking yourself the hard questions\, finding your own answers\, and discovering the options that will serve you best. You will leave equipped with relational tools which can support you now and in the future\, creating the emotional agility to navigate challenging relationships. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis 3-hour workshop starts with some work on deep listening\, followed by a step-by-step walkthrough of the Behavior Response process. Participants will work in pairs to deepen their thinking and work through their personal topics. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nYou will complete this workshop with a tool you can take back to your community for support in difficult situations. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn this session\, you’ll learn about: \n\n\n\n\nDeep listening\n\n\n\nIdentifying unpleasant behaviors and their impacts\n\n\n\nFinding values-aligned responses that improve the situation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKaren Gimnig\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nKaren is a group facilitator\, motivational speaker and relationship coach. SUMMARY:Direct Democracy: Community-Scale Governance
DESCRIPTION:Direct Democracy: Community-Scale Governance \n\n\n\nTuesday April 29\, 2025\n\n\n\n\nPacific time: 8am-9am\n\n\n\nMountain time: 9am-10pm\n\n\n\nCentral time: 10am-11am\n\n\n\nEastern time: 11am-12pm\n\n\n\n\nView your local time here. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhether we are protesting\, speaking up at a city council meeting or participating in a consensus decision in our home community\, most of us know the value of our voice – and also what it feels like when our voices and needs don’t seem to matter. Let’s unpack what works and doesn’t work in good\, community-scale governance and genuinely democratic processes in the Direct Democracy webinar. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the event\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nNow is the time to go back to the basics: What does it mean to have governance that cares about the people it serves? This webinar will give us an opportunity to explore questions that are relevant not only for the big picture moment we find ourselves in\, but for the scale of direct democracy that intentional communities operate at.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJoin longtime communard Yana Ludwig in this special session where we will look with fresh eyes at what democracy means and how communities have a role in skills building\, debate\, and framing important discussions. Bring your own thoughts and examples from your communities to contribute to the conversation! \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn this session\, you’ll learn about: \n\n\n\n\nWhat are some key aspects of direct democracy\, and how do they apply at the community scale?\n\n\n\nHow do we build skills for discernment\, listening and collective alignment?\n\n\n\nHow can practices of direct democracy improve community resilience?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYana Ludwig\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nYana served on the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Intentional Community for over a decade. We have been enjoying life here for ten years\, ever since we built our Common House. We have 18 homes\, ranging from a tiny house to 1200 square feet\, all in energy-efficient duplexes and quadruplexes\, designed to be accessible. Our 23 residents (singles and couples ) own their homes and share responsibility for our 10 acres\, Common House and outbuildings. We use consensus to govern ourselves and concentrate on developing a cooperative culture. We love to have fun and party\, but we also work on maintaining our buildings and landscaping as well as being involved in the committees and groups that make our community strong. Our passions include organic gardening\, hiking\, pets and enjoying the natural and urban attractions nearby. We love rural living and are surrounded by 100+ acres of trails that our neighbors at Potluck Community Farm have shared with us. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLEARN MORE \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Your Host\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCynthia Tina\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCynthia helps people discover intentional community living for better housing\, health\, and happiness. Transforming another cattle farmland and zoo into an intentional community reconnected with nature and wildlife. A land 10 times bigger than the original La Ecovilla! From 2025\, we will be welcoming 300 families in 6 villages. \n\n\n\nLEARN MORE \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Your Host\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCynthia Tina\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCynthia helps people discover intentional community living for better housing\, health\, and happiness. SUMMARY:Five Ways to Respond to Conflict (And When to Use Them)
DESCRIPTION:Five Ways to Respond to Conflict (And When to Use Them)\n\n\n\nThursday\, March 27\, 2025\n\n\n\n\nPacific time: 10-11am\n\n\n\nMountain time: 11am-12pm\n\n\n\nCentral time: 12-1pm\n\n\n\nEastern time: 1-2pm\n\n\n\n\nView your local time here. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a conversation about the varied ways we experience conflict in community\, and the choices we have about how to respond to those conflicts in the Five Ways to Respond to Conflict webinar. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the event\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nConflicts range from little “d” disagreements\, to big “C” CONFLICT\, and they reach us on good days and bad\, when we have a lot of capacity for emotional work and when we have none. They arrive in people with whom we have and want deeply intimate relationships and people we are happy to keep as casual neighbors. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDespite all variety\, we tend to respond to all conflicts the same way. For some it’s head on\, for others it’s avoidance. In community we often adopt a shared value for working through conflict using particular tools.  This session will address that paradigm\, suggest that there are a number of different ways to respond to conflict and challenge each of us to be intentional about conflict\, choosing the response that best suits the circumstances and people involved.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn this webinar\, you’ll learn about: \n\n\n\n\nA variety of approaches to conflict\n\n\n\nHow to be intentional in your response to conflict\n\n\n\nWhen to fight\, when to flee\, and when to do something else\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKaren Gimnig\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nKaren is a group facilitator\, motivational speaker and relationship coach. SUMMARY:Developing Regenerative Community Businesses
DESCRIPTION:Developing Regenerative Community Businesses\n\n\n\nWednesday\, December 4\, 2024 \n\n\n\n\nPacific: 8:00-9:30am\n\n\n\nMountain: 9:00am-10:30am\n\n\n\nCentral: 10:00-11:30am\n\n\n\nEastern: 11:00am-12:30pm\n\n\n\n\nView your local time here. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow can communities build regenerative economies within our capitalist societies? Come learn about and discuss successful models (and perhaps a few warnings) from community-based businesses. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the event\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhether through farming the land\, building structures\, or sharing resources\, intentional communities have always striven to develop socially just and economically viable systems. It can be a challenge to sustain local economies that uphold community values and livelihoods within capitalist societies\, but building regenerative businesses within intentional communities is not only possible\, it’s a reality for many.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nUsing local resources to grow your own food\, craft and sell products\, barter with each other\, and offer skill-sharing are ways to remain self-reliant and sustainable. These pockets of innovation often begin as grass-roots efforts\, but can lead to lasting and widespread transformations.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJoin the Developing Regenerative Community Businesses webinar to hear real-life examples of successful community businesses and see for yourself how to design your own local economy using community resources at your disposal. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n— \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe FIC provides the resources people need to thrive in community and in collaborative ways. We make our offerings accessible for all to support them on their journey. Now we need your support.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHelp us reach our goal of $20K to ensure we can continue to provide all the tools you need to thrive in community.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Week’s Guest Speakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNick (Thor) Thorsen\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThor moved to East Wind in April of 2023. He started in nut butter production and moved on to be a coordinator for tub shifts shortly after. Began helping and plugging into East Wind Nut Butter’s office and administration work a few months later. Joined a marketing team aimed to help improve website presence. Created new system for tracking and forecasting raw material needs and later becoming purchasing manager. Began leading marketing projects and teams then eventually moving into the Sales and Marketing position officially in Spring of 2024.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMolly McGee\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMolly (she/her) is a founding member of Abundant Ponds\, a forming community in the San Francisco Bay Area\, which recently bought a restaurant\, The Rainbow Junction\, on 147 acres. He spent much of his childhood learning directly from 1200 acres of meadows and forests and from the elders who helped him cultivate a deep reverence for the more-than-human world.
